After ten years as an active duty Marine, Captain Eric Ramos is rejoining civilian life. His first job is chauffeuring, assisting, and generally keeping track of NBA young gun Tyler Haley. Tyler’s had a rough few months, and his team owner is convinced he needs some hand-holding if he’s going to keep delivering wins for the St. Louis Fire Foxes.
Instead of the arrogant, over-privileged athlete Eric expected, Tyler is a big, blond, lonely twenty-three-year-old who needs more than just an employee to keep him in line. While taking care of Tyler, Eric changes from employee to friend, to something more. And when Eric realizes that something is burning the kid up from the inside out, he's determined to find a way to help him before Tyler’s carefully constructed facade turns to ash.

I really enjoyed this novella. I Loved how the relationship started off as a friendship. Ram saw what Tyler desperately needed and was there for him. I liked the height difference between the two characters. Ram this 6'3'' inch sexy & confident marine verses Tyler the 6'7'' or so basketball player who still hasn't quite found his place in the world yet. For me the physical character differences combined with the emotional ones (Mr. Calm & Confident verses Tyler's vulnerability) was a huge turn on for me. While reading this novella I found myself wanting to know these two people more. To me they were each well written characters that seemed so different yet fit together perfectly.I just started reading m/m romance this year and have enjoyed all the new books out there waiting for me to read them. I'm all about the LOVE, no matter how you find it. And Fire Inside had a combination of love, strength and vulnerability that just worked well together. Sometimes we just need someone to be our rock, our best friend and for Tyler sexy Ram is it! Fire Inside was a great novella, but I would have loved to have read this in a full length novel. If you've been looking for a great read with a little something different this it.
I also LOVED the Whopper Cookie Recipe! It's like getting a little surprise on top of a great story.

Fire Inside edition by Dawn Douglas Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The St. Louis Fire Foxes are on a winning streak thanks to the hottest find in the NBA, Tyler Haley. Signed straight from high school, the big, blonde kid’s talent has made the young team steadily raise over the past few years, right to a shot at the championship.
Recently retired from years of active duty sucking up desert sand Captain Eric ‘Ram’ Ramos takes a position as Haley’s assistant. According to team owner Mrs. Brady the kid’s previous employees spent more time screwing each other and his girlfriend than doing their jobs. It’s ironic that part of the reason he’s hired is because he’s gay.
Though Ram is far from a psychology degree it’s patently obvious to him that Tyler is starving from a lack of basic kindness and decency. Years in the foster system and a loss of identity left Tyler thirsting for someone to care about him. Ram feels an empathy he never expected for the lonely young man. He can tell that something is going on with Tyler as well. Their relationship is evolving into something far more than friendship and neither wants to stop it.
Author Dawn Douglas delivers an emotionally charged tale of love in Fire Inside. Their romance is seductive in a quiet, genuine, slowly developing manner. Straightforward, no nonsense Ram connects from the first with awkward, naïve Tyler. It’s a joy to witness their relationship grow. Told in first person point of view by Ram there’s some truly snarky dialogue that adds depth to their story. Seriously touching, Fire Inside gives heart and hope to their love. Only problem is that it ends.

Very well written. The author gives an excellent exmple of how prejudices can warp our own preceptions of ourselve.
great read
A different angle on the athletic star genre. Interesting character developments for a short story. The story line moves well and ends on a positive note, enough to think there is a promise for the HEA.
I highly recommend this book, it's original and heartfelt and I've read it several times over. My only wish is that it was longer and the author had hashed out some of the psychological issues and explored the Dom/Sub relationship developing between the two. That being said, she did a very good job of showing the two main characters personalities for a short story.
About 1500 locations.
I was a little leery of this one, but happily, it ended up being a quick and enjoyable read. Ram was a great, relatable character. At times, Tyler was almost painfully skittish, but the shifts in his demeanor - public to private and back again - were interesting. (In fact, I would've been interested to see a bit more about how he developed that kind of switch.) The way that Ram "won over" Tyler reminded me a little of the way that people talk about training a horse or a hawk - get them used to your voice, then your touch, and then just shower them with affection until the bond is solidified. No real major angsty blow-ups, which I appreciated.
